The Untamed Youth - Doin' Me In 7" (Teen-Rage)
Recorded way back in 1987 when they were teenagers, this raw
collection of tunes sounds more like The Mono Men then the
surf/frat rock sound they're famous for today. It was quite a
surprise listening to this for the first time, yet it really
grows on you after a few listenings. They were really a
completely different band back then. It's amazing to hear their
sound change so drastically between this recording and their
first LP. What makes this a must is the first recorded version of
Pabst Blue Ribbon, a song they still play today. (Continental #5)
The Untamed Youth - Go Girl Go/Hot Lips Baby 7" (Norton)
This two-track 7" is one of the hottest singles of 1997.
You'll sing along to the catchy melody of Go Girl Go ('She's my
hip swingin', French speakin', Watusi Go-Go Girl'), with a crazy
Trashmen-esque tune on the flip. With this release and their new
Estrus full length release The Untamed Youth are ready to take
the entire world by storm. Housed in a cool sleeve featuring a
hot dancer on the front and the 'Youth in their 70's glam phase
on the back. (Continental #5)
The Untamed Youth - Planet Mace (Estrus)
"An all-out PBR fueled rock n' roll party that reunites the
band's original line-up from before the big Beverly Hills
migration."
I have been waiting eagerly for this release ever since Estrus
announced they were gonna come out with an LP of brand-new
material. I have listened to it 3 times since it came in today's
mail, and man, this is what every Untamed Youth fan has been
waiting for! It starts of with a couple of boozy garage stompers,
I'll Be Gone and Beer Bust Blues Part 2, the goes
into hot-rod n' surf mode with Fire Breathin' '32. F.U.J.I.M.O.
is a classic surf stomp, full of crazy reverbed geetars and
haunting organ and electric piano in the background. From there
things just get better and better. Buy a few copies of this LP,
maybe they'll make enough cash to keep the Untamed Youth going
for another album! (Available from Double Crown
Mail-Order.)
(*)The Untamed Youth - Untamed Melodies (Norton)
Thirty-two of the best songs ever made by The Untamed Youth have
been compiled onto this disc. I first heard these guys on their
live Estrus release last year and was mightily impressed by it. I
wanted to pick up some of their studio recordings, but didn't
know where to start until this compilation came out. All of their
"hits" are here: "Some Kinda Fun",
"Pabst Blue Ribbon", "Go Go Ferrari",
"Drag Race Tragedy", etc. If you like surf n' stomp
music and haven't heard these guys, get this one today! (Hmmm...
#7) (The Christmas single by The Untamed Youth can be found in The Continental
Mail-Order Catalog).
