Out of the ashes of long time California faves Surf Report comes The Secret Samurai - a powerful surf trio that have come up with a cracking new eleven track CD. There is plenty of reverb, backed by a solid, clear bass and drums. The songwriting and production on this are top notch - the melodies come through loud n' clear. "Istanbul" is the lone cover here - it's good, but it's a tribute to the band that their originals are better than this oft-covered classic. It's all housed in a nifty cardboard sleeve and the CD even looks like a mini-LP.
