These agents of the Southern Surf Syndicate recorded the first release on our label when it was called Continental Records. Their 7" EP called 'Hit The Jetstream With The Penetrators' has been a huge success, gaining airplay all over the world. They now have a new CD entitled 'Locked & Loaded' containing 11 original tunes and covers of tunes by The Ventures & The Super Stocks.
Here's what the press has said about 'Hit The Jet Stream With The Penetrators':
"Recorded in 'Stratophonic (tm)' stereo at Bakos Amp Works, Hit The Jet Stream With The Penetrators somehow manages to squeeze a complete international adventure onto two sides of a 7" vinyl EP." -Gregory Nicoll, Creative Loafing
"Features four blistering instrumentals by one of this country's premier surf bands. These Alabama/Georgia boys know exactly how to make a great record and 'Hit The Jet Stream With The Penetrators' delivers the goods big time. Their 'Triple Dog Dare' is a sure bet for a future surf standard." -John Blair, Discoveries Magazine
"This is a mighty fine EP from the founding fathers of the Southern Surf Syndicate and the mail purveyors of speedy doublepick in the mighty South." -Phil Dirt, Reverb Central
"Four wet, wetter and thoroughly drenched spy/surf tunes that'll have you moving your feet as you go for your gun. Great stuff, this." -D.J. Johnson, Cosmik Debris
"This 4-cut EP features material in the Dick Dale tradition of rapid-fire single-string guitar bombastics, high-energy drumming and it's all dynamite. If you love surf music of the instrumental kind, I'm sure you'll enjoy this 4-cut EP and once again it's on pure vinyl! A first-rate release for Continental Records. Even the graphics are top-notch (courtesy of Rip Thrillby, who doubles as lead guitarist for the band). As Casey Kasem used to say, "I like it, it's a hit!"" -Chris Cole, Cool & Strange Music Magazine
"A concept record along the lines of vintage Hot Rod and Skateboard themed records. The band takes us on a well executed journey complete with captain (or is that pilot?) announcements between tracks. You get four numbers, cool cover photos of the band boarding their jet and a bit of a laugh while listening to some great surf music." -Tiki News Magazine
"A four-song seven-incher that should touch all the necesary controls to make yours a pleasant flight in the reverb-laden cloud cover. These guys provide some seriously fantastic surf swingin' on this dish". -Blair Buscareno, Teen Scene

THE PENETRATORS "LOCKED & LOADED" CD
(Double Crown Records no #; USA; 38 mins)
Checkpoint Echo / 50 Bucks A Midget / Redlined / Midnight Run / Deception Bay / Another Time, Another Place / Codename: Gypsy / Speed Bump / Single-Malt Stomp / Triple-Dog Dare / Mariner 4 / Locked & Loaded / Southern Surf Syndicate Stomp
At last The Penetrators have a second album to their credit, and boy does it get off to a flying start. Checkpoint Echo is one stunning number that manages the seemingly impossible: it would sit as comfortably on a UK/Euro guitar instro album as it does on this American surf-styled set. It has a driving rhythm and a beautifully echoed melodic and evocative lead. 50 Bucks A Midget sounds quite routine in comparison but Redlined is a driving reverb surfer of considerable power.
As ever, Gary Usher/Dick Burns' Midnight Run shines brightly and The Penetrators give it plenty of polish with their fine delivery. Damped reverb picking sets the stage for a moody lead on the atmospheric slowie Deception Bay. It's a tasty and effective diversion form all the activity around it, this is one to set beside The Surfraiders' great Point Conception '63. Another Time, Another Place shifts the action up a couple of gears to a catchy mid-tempo beat, with more of that damped picking in the background and a ringing lead. Codename: Gypsy moves into top gear but doesn't miss out on the melody front either, this has the feel of an Exodus-inspired theme and that's OK by me. Speed Bump is a traditional surf stomp and I'm also partial to the occasional dose of single malt, which is celebrated here with a Celtic flourish.
Triple-Dog Dare features the duetting and duelling guitars of Rip Thrillby and Spanky Twangler before the second cover, an excellent version of The Ventures' Mariner 4 in full space flight love those chords! The title track is deep and dirty, a slow and menacing spy theme of great stature that builds nicely at the end. The album closes with a romp through the Southern Surf Syndicate Theme which is a trademark melodic fast surfer. A fitting conclusion to this balanced and highly enjoyable set.
