This is an interview with The Omega Men's lead singer and guitarist, Jonathan Sipes and Hammond organ extraordinaire, Susan Mackey. Enjoy!
The Continental: How long have you been around?
Jonathan: The Omega Men have been together for 2 1/2 years.
The Continental: Where and when was your first show?
Susan: December '95 at Zee's in Harrisburg, PA. We opened for The Stomp Wizards and The Original Sins.
The Continental: What are your favorite songs to perform live?
Jonathan: You'll Never Miss Me. Every time we play it we get royalties.
Susan: "Flat Tire", "Soul Dressing" and "Driver".
The Continental: Do you have any plans for a tour in the NW?
Jonathan: Yeah, soon. Maybe this winter. The dates at this point are confidential.
Susan: We'd love to go. We're definitely entertaining the possibility.
The Continental: What was the first original song you came up with?
Jonathan: "Mania for Blondes".
Susan: The first song I wrote was "Susan Goes to Work", which perfectly expressed the HELL I felt at my former job.
The Continental: What groups are you all into?
Jonathan: The John Barry Seven, Booker T and the MG's, Blue Oyster Cult and The Prisoners.
Susan: Booker T, The Small Faces, The Jam, The Prisoners, Jimmy Smith and 50's 60's jazz.
The Continental: You all look pretty dapper in your promotional photos. How important are clothes to the Omega Men image? Where do you find your threads?
Jonathan: Are you kidding? Style counts.
Susan: Fashion is very important! Our motto of course, is "Fashion Before Comfort". Most of our outfits come from Goodwill, thrift shops and parents, etc...
The Continental: I love the energy on your new CD. I imagine your shows must be pretty crazy. What kinda people are attracted to the Omega Men sound?
Jonathan: Beautiful young women, secret agents and debutantes.
Susan: Anybody who loves to dance and have a great time.
The Continental: Tell me of any unusual occurrences you've had at your shows.
Susan: Once, my original Hammond decided to squat on Jonathan's new Hush Puppies - unfortunately he was wearing them. Needless to say, a sore foot, a marred shoe and a reglued C key later they are the best of friends again.
The Continental: What is your favorite Frank Sinatra song?
Jonathan: His duet with Buck Dharma on "Don't Fear the Reaper" on Duets 3- The Outtakes.
Susan: "Night & Day"
The Continental: What is your favorite cocktail?
Jonathan: Brandy Alexander. Blended not stirred.
Susan: Screamin' Windex (don't ask).
The Continental: What's coming up for The Omega Men? Any new releases?
Susan: We will be on a Shadows tribute comp. on MuSick. It should be out this fall. In the works, an EP or two soon.
